[Verse 1]
The world is shining like a golden dream,
A passing river, a reflection in a stream.
The foolish chase the treasures of the day,
While wisdom shows another, brighter way.
A bubble rising, a mirage in the sun,
All things will change, and nothing stays as one.
So keep your heart awake and your spirit free,
And walk the path of truth and honesty.
[Pre-Chorus]
Let go of greed, let go of fear,
The light of wisdom is always near.
With every step, with every breath,
Choose what is right, beyond all death.
[Chorus]
Like the moonlight beyond the clouds,
Let your heart shine clear and bright.
Leave the darkness, rise above,
Walk the path of truth and love.
Give with kindness, live with grace,
Find your peace in every place.
Though the world may fade away,
Let the Dhamma light your way.
[Verse 2]
If yesterday you stumbled in the night,
Today you can arise and seek the light.
A single choice, a wholesome deed,
Can plant the hope that hearts may need.
The hands that give, the hearts that care,
Can build a world of love to share.
No crown can bring the peace we seek,
True wisdom makes the humble strong, not weak.
[Pre-Chorus]
Let go of greed, let go of fear,
The light of wisdom is always near.
With every step, with every breath,
Choose what is right, beyond all death.
[Chorus]
Like the moonlight beyond the clouds,
Let your heart shine clear and bright.
Leave the darkness, rise above,
Walk the path of truth and love.
Give with kindness, live with grace,
Find your peace in every place.
Though the world may fade away,
Let the Dhamma light your way.
[Bridge]
No throne, no gold, no worldly fame,
Can free the heart from greed and shame.
The greatest victory we can know,
Is conquering the self within our soul.
When wisdom blooms and kindness grows,
The light of truth forever glows.
[Final Chorus]
Like the moonlight beyond the clouds,
Let your heart shine clear and bright.
Leave the darkness, rise above,
Walk the path of truth and love.
Give with kindness, live with grace,
Find your peace in every place.
Through every night, through every day,
Let the Dhamma light your way.
[Outro]
The world may change, the stars may fade,
But wholesome deeds will never be in vain.
Like the moon beyond the clouds,
Let wisdom shine forever bright.
The Dhammapada: The World — Chapter 13
Living with Wisdom, Virtue, and Non-Attachment
One should not follow what is unwholesome, nor live in heedlessness. One should not hold wrong views or become a burden to the world. A monk should not be careless in receiving alms.
One should practice the Dhamma righteously. Those who live according to the Dhamma dwell happily in this world and in the world beyond.
One should practice the Dhamma with integrity and refrain from wrongdoing. Those who follow the Dhamma find happiness both here and hereafter.
The King of Death does not see the person who regards the world as one would regard a bubble or a mirage.
Come, behold this wondrous world, like a royal chariot, where the foolish become absorbed, while the wise remain unattached.
Whoever was heedless in the past, but becomes heedful later, illuminates this world like the moon freed from clouds.
Whoever has performed evil deeds, but abandons them through wholesome actions, illuminates this world like the moon freed from clouds.
This world is shrouded in darkness, and few are those who see clearly. Few beings reach the heavenly realms, just as few birds escape from a net.
Swans travel along the path of the sun. Those who have cultivated the bases of spiritual power travel through the air. The wise, having conquered Mara and his forces, depart from the world.
There is no one who can escape the consequences of wrongdoing while disregarding the Dhamma and speaking falsely about the world beyond.
The miser cannot reach the heavenly realm. The foolish do not praise generosity, but the wise rejoice in giving. Through rejoicing in generosity, one finds happiness in the world beyond.
The fruit of stream-entry is more excellent than sovereignty over the earth, than rebirth in heaven, and than lordship over all the worlds.
Main Message
The Dhammapada's World Chapter teaches that true happiness arises from living righteously, remaining mindful, abandoning harmful actions, and developing wisdom.
The world is impermanent and cannot provide lasting satisfaction through possessions, status, or power. Those who understand this truth do not become enslaved by worldly attractions.
Even someone who has made mistakes can transform their life through wholesome actions, just as the moon shines brightly after emerging from clouds.
Generosity, compassion, and spiritual development lead to a deeper form of happiness than worldly authority or material success.
