Saṅkhārūpapatti Sutta: Virtue Shapes Destiny and Builds the Foundation for World Peace
Bangkok – Buddhist scholars and Peace Studies experts have proposed applying the teachings of the Saṅkhārūpapatti Sutta, found in Volume 14 of the Pali Canon (Majjhima Nikāya, Uparipaṇṇāsaka), as a guiding framework for building sustainable world peace. They explain that the future of individuals and societies is shaped not by chance but by intentional cultivation of virtue, disciplined mental development, and wholesome aspirations.
The Saṅkhārūpapatti Sutta teaches that those who establish firm and wholesome intentions, supported by virtuous conduct, may attain the destinations corresponding to the quality of their minds, whether among noble human beings, heavenly realms, or Brahma worlds. However, the Buddha emphasizes that the highest goal is not rebirth in any realm but the complete destruction of mental defilements and the realization of Nibbāna, the ultimate freedom beyond the cycle of rebirth.
The Sutta identifies five essential virtues that support this path: faith (Saddhā), confidence in truth and wholesome principles; moral conduct (Sīla), living ethically; learning (Suta), continuous study and understanding; generosity (Cāga), selfless giving for the benefit of others; and wisdom (Paññā), the insight needed to understand reality and make sound decisions. Together, these virtues become the driving force for both personal transformation and social well-being.
Peace scholars believe these teachings have significant relevance for today's world. Lasting peace begins with individuals who cultivate integrity, compassion, knowledge, generosity, and wisdom. When these qualities are embraced by families, communities, institutions, and governments, trust grows, conflicts diminish, and cooperation becomes stronger.
Researchers also emphasize that setting goals with wholesome intention is essential in education, leadership, public administration, and international relations. Aspirations rooted in virtue inspire decisions that serve the common good rather than narrow self-interest.
Furthermore, the Sutta reminds humanity that genuine success is not measured by wealth, power, or status, but by the gradual abandonment of greed, hatred, and delusion—the very causes of violence and division. Cultivating the five virtues therefore strengthens both individual resilience and global harmony.
Scholars conclude that the Saṅkhārūpapatti Sutta presents a timeless vision for sustainable development and peaceful coexistence. When faith, morality, learning, generosity, and wisdom are cultivated together, they create a society founded upon trust, responsibility, compassion, and lasting peace, while guiding humanity toward the highest freedom beyond suffering.

กรุงเทพฯ – นักวิชาการด้านพระพุทธศาสนาและสันติศึกษาเสนอให้นำหลักธรรมจาก สังขารูปปัตติสูตร ในพระไตรปิฎก เล่มที่ ๑๔ พระสุตตันตปิฎก เล่ม ๖ มัชฌิมนิกาย อุปริปัณณาสก์ มาประยุกต์ใช้เป็นแนวทางสร้างสันติภาพโลก โดยชี้ว่า อนาคตของบุคคลและสังคมมิได้เกิดจากความบังเอิญ หากเกิดจากการสั่งสมคุณธรรม การฝึกฝนจิตใจ และการตั้งเจตนาที่ถูกต้อง ซึ่งสามารถนำพามนุษย์ไปสู่ทั้งความสำเร็จในชีวิตและความสงบสุขที่ยั่งยืน
สังขารูปปัตติสูตรอธิบายว่า พระพุทธเจ้าทรงแสดงหลักแห่งการบรรลุผลตามความปรารถนา โดยบุคคลผู้ประกอบด้วยคุณธรรมและตั้งจิตมั่นอย่างแน่วแน่ สามารถเข้าถึงภพภูมิหรือสถานะที่สอดคล้องกับคุณภาพแห่งจิตของตน ทั้งในหมู่มนุษย์ เทวดา และพรหม อย่างไรก็ตาม พระองค์ทรงเน้นย้ำว่า จุดหมายสูงสุดมิใช่เพียงการได้เกิดในภพภูมิที่ประณีต แต่คือการดับอาสวะกิเลสและเข้าถึงพระนิพพาน อันเป็นความหลุดพ้นจากการเวียนว่ายตายเกิดโดยสิ้นเชิง

ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านสันติศึกษาระบุว่า หลักธรรมในสังขารูปปัตติสูตรสามารถประยุกต์ใช้กับการสร้างสันติภาพโลกได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ เพราะสันติภาพที่แท้จริงเกิดจากการปลูกฝังคุณธรรมในระดับบุคคลก่อนขยายผลสู่ครอบครัว ชุมชน องค์กร และประชาคมโลก หากผู้นำและประชาชนมีศรัทธาในคุณธรรม รักษาศีล แสวงหาความรู้ เสียสละเพื่อส่วนรวม และใช้ปัญญาในการแก้ไขปัญหา ความขัดแย้งย่อมลดลงและความร่วมมือย่อมเพิ่มขึ้น
นักวิชาการยังชี้ว่า การตั้งเป้าหมายชีวิตด้วยเจตนาที่ถูกต้องมีความสำคัญอย่างยิ่ง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการพัฒนาตนเอง การบริหารองค์กร หรือการกำหนดนโยบายสาธารณะ เพราะเจตนาที่ตั้งอยู่บนคุณธรรมจะนำไปสู่การตัดสินใจที่คำนึงถึงประโยชน์ของส่วนรวม มากกว่าผลประโยชน์เฉพาะกลุ่ม
นอกจากนี้ หลักธรรมดังกล่าวยังสะท้อนว่า ความสำเร็จที่แท้จริงมิได้วัดจากอำนาจ ชื่อเสียง หรือความมั่งคั่ง หากวัดจากการลดละความโลภ ความโกรธ และความหลง ซึ่งเป็นรากเหง้าของความรุนแรงและความแตกแยกในสังคม การพัฒนาคุณธรรมทั้งห้าจึงเป็นกระบวนการสร้างภูมิคุ้มกันทางจิตใจที่นำไปสู่ความมั่นคงทั้งของบุคคลและของโลก
