Bahudhātuka Sutta: Wisdom for Building World Peace Through Understanding Reality
Bangkok – As the world continues to face conflict, violence, and social instability, Buddhist scholars are encouraging the application of the teachings of the Bahudhātuka Sutta, found in Volume 14 of the Pali Canon (Majjhima Nikāya, Uparipaṇṇāsaka), as a practical framework for creating sustainable world peace.
The Buddha taught that disorder, suffering, and conflict arise primarily from ignorance. Those who fail to understand the true nature of reality are easily driven by greed, hatred, and delusion, leading to disputes among individuals, communities, and nations.
According to the Bahudhātuka Sutta, a truly wise person must master four essential areas of understanding. First is the knowledge of the elements (Dhātu) that constitute life and nature. Second is the understanding of the sense bases (Āyatana), through which human beings perceive the world. Third is the realization of Dependent Origination (Paṭiccasamuppāda), the universal law of cause and effect that explains how all phenomena arise through conditions. Fourth is the ability to distinguish what is possible and impossible (Ṭhāna and Aṭṭhāna) according to natural law and the law of karma.
Scholars believe these principles offer valuable guidance for peacebuilding. By understanding the interconnectedness of all beings, respecting cultural and religious diversity, and recognizing that every conflict has underlying causes, societies can replace violence with wisdom, dialogue, compassion, and cooperation.
The teaching also encourages leaders and policymakers to make decisions based on truth and reality rather than prejudice or misinformation. Such an approach strengthens justice, transparency, and mutual trust among nations.

กรุงเทพฯ – ท่ามกลางสถานการณ์โลกที่ยังเผชิญความขัดแย้ง ความรุนแรง และวิกฤตทางสังคม นักวิชาการด้านพระพุทธศาสนาได้เสนอให้ประยุกต์ใช้หลักธรรมจาก พหุธาตุกสูตร ในพระไตรปิฎก เล่มที่ ๑๔ พระสุตตันตปิฎก เล่ม ๖ มัชฌิมนิกาย อุปริปัณณาสก์ เป็นแนวทางสร้างสันติภาพโลก โดยชี้ว่าการแก้ปัญหาที่ยั่งยืนต้องเริ่มจากการพัฒนาปัญญาของมนุษย์ให้เข้าใจธรรมชาติของชีวิตและกฎแห่งเหตุปัจจัย
สาระสำคัญของพหุธาตุกสูตร พระพุทธเจ้าทรงแสดงให้เห็นว่า ความวุ่นวาย ความแตกแยก และภัยทั้งหลายของสังคม ล้วนมีรากเหง้ามาจาก "คนพาล" ผู้ไม่เข้าใจความจริงของธรรมชาติ ขาดปัญญาในการแยกแยะเหตุและผล จึงตกอยู่ภายใต้อำนาจของความโลภ ความโกรธ และความหลง จนนำไปสู่ความขัดแย้งทั้งในระดับบุคคล ชุมชน และนานาชาติ
พระสูตรได้อธิบายคุณสมบัติของ "บัณฑิต" ว่าจะต้องมีความรู้และความเข้าใจอย่างลึกซึ้งในหลักธรรมสำคัญ ๔ ประการ ได้แก่ ความเข้าใจเรื่อง ธาตุ ซึ่งเป็นองค์ประกอบของชีวิตและธรรมชาติ ความเข้าใจเรื่อง อายตนะ หรือช่องทางการรับรู้ที่ทำให้เกิดการรับรู้โลกภายนอก ความเข้าใจ ปฏิจจสมุปบาท ซึ่งเป็นกฎแห่งเหตุและปัจจัยที่ทำให้ทุกสิ่งอาศัยกันเกิดขึ้น และความสามารถในการจำแนก ฐานะและอฐานะ ว่าสิ่งใดเป็นไปได้หรือเป็นไปไม่ได้ตามกฎแห่งกรรมและความเป็นจริง
นักวิชาการระบุว่า หลักธรรมดังกล่าวสามารถประยุกต์ใช้กับการสร้างสันติภาพโลกได้อย่างเป็นรูปธรรม โดยส่งเสริมให้ประชาชนและผู้นำประเทศเรียนรู้ที่จะมองเห็นความเชื่อมโยงของทุกสรรพสิ่ง เคารพความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรม เชื้อชาติ และศาสนา พร้อมยอมรับว่าทุกปัญหาล้วนมีเหตุปัจจัย และสามารถแก้ไขได้ด้วยปัญญา การสนทนา และความร่วมมือ มากกว่าการใช้ความรุนแรง
นอกจากนี้ การเข้าใจหลักฐานะและอฐานะ ยังช่วยให้ผู้กำหนดนโยบายสามารถตัดสินใจบนพื้นฐานของความเป็นจริง ไม่ตกอยู่ภายใต้อคติหรือข้อมูลที่บิดเบือน อันจะนำไปสู่การบริหารประเทศและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศอย่างมีเหตุผล โปร่งใส และเป็นธรรม
ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านสันติศึกษาระบุว่า หากประชาคมโลกนำหลักแห่งปัญญาตามพหุธาตุกสูตรมาประยุกต์ใช้ควบคู่กับวิทยาศาสตร์ เทคโนโลยี และความร่วมมือระหว่างประเทศ จะช่วยลดความหวาดระแวง สร้างความไว้วางใจ และส่งเสริมการอยู่ร่วมกันอย่างสันติในระยะยาว
พหุธาตุกสูตรจึงมิใช่เพียงหลักธรรมสำหรับการพัฒนาตนเอง หากยังเป็นแนวคิดที่สามารถประยุกต์ใช้ในการบริหารองค์กร การกำหนดนโยบายสาธารณะ และการสร้างสันติภาพโลก โดยยึดหลักความจริงของธรรมชาติ ความเข้าใจในเหตุและผล และการใช้ปัญญาเป็นเครื่องนำทางสู่สังคมที่สงบสุข มั่นคง และยั่งยืน อันเป็นเป้าหมายร่วมของมนุษยชาติในศตวรรษที่ ๒๑
