พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสตอบว่า ณ สภาวะที่ น้ำ ดิน ไฟ และลม หรือธาตุทั้งสี่ไม่อาจตั้งอยู่ได้ วัฏจักรแห่งการเวียนว่ายย่อมสิ้นสุด สังสารวัฏย่อมหยุดลง และนามกับรูปย่อมดับหมด ณ สภาวะนั้น

นักวิชาการอธิบายว่า พระดำรัสดังกล่าวมิได้หมายถึงสถานที่ทางภูมิศาสตร์ หากหมายถึง พระนิพพาน อันเป็นสภาวะที่พ้นจากการปรุงแต่งทั้งปวง ไม่มีการเกิด ไม่มีการดับในลักษณะของสังขาร และไม่มีการเวียนกลับของทุกข์อีกต่อไป

เมื่อประยุกต์หลักธรรมในสรสูตรสู่การสร้างสันติภาพโลก จะเห็นว่า ความขัดแย้งระหว่างบุคคล สังคม และประเทศต่าง ๆ มักดำเนินไปเป็น "วัฏจักรแห่งการตอบโต้" ความโกรธก่อให้เกิดความโกรธ การแก้แค้นนำไปสู่การแก้แค้นซ้ำ ความรุนแรงจึงส่งต่อจากรุ่นหนึ่งไปสู่อีกรุ่นหนึ่ง

Sara Sutta: Ending the Cycle of Conflict — The Buddhist Vision of Lasting World Peace

The Sara Sutta presents a profound dialogue between celestial beings and the Buddha.

The devas asked:

"Where does the cycle of existence come to an end? Where does the wheel of becoming cease? Where do name and form completely disappear?"

The Buddha replied:

"Where earth, water, fire, and wind no longer find a footing, there the cycle of existence ends. There the wheel no longer turns. There name and form completely cease."

This teaching points to Nibbāna, the unconditioned reality beyond all forms of birth, death, and suffering.

It is not a physical location but the complete cessation of attachment, craving, and ignorance.

Applied to global peacebuilding, the Sara Sutta teaches that humanity cannot establish lasting peace merely by ending individual conflicts.

True peace requires ending the cycle that continually recreates conflict.

Hatred gives rise to hatred.

Violence generates more violence.

Revenge produces endless retaliation.

Only wisdom, compassion, forgiveness, and freedom from attachment can interrupt this destructive cycle.

The Sara Sutta therefore reminds us that sustainable peace begins when humanity chooses to end the causes of conflict rather than merely managing its consequences.

When the inner cycle of greed, hatred, and delusion comes to an end, the outer cycle of violence also begins to disappear.
