พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสตอบว่า โลกมี แสงสว่าง 4 ประการ ได้แก่
- แสงแห่งดวงอาทิตย์ ส่องสว่างในเวลากลางวัน
- แสงแห่งดวงจันทร์ ส่องสว่างในเวลากลางคืน
- แสงแห่งไฟ ซึ่งให้ความสว่างได้ทั้งกลางวันและกลางคืน
- และ แสงแห่งพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ซึ่งทรงยกย่องว่าเป็นแสงสว่างอันประเสริฐที่สุด เหนือกว่าแสงสว่างทั้งปวง
พระสูตรชี้ให้เห็นว่า แสงจากธรรมชาติสามารถขจัดความมืดภายนอกได้ แต่ไม่อาจขจัดความมืดภายในจิตใจของมนุษย์ได้ ขณะที่แสงแห่งพระพุทธเจ้าหมายถึง แสงแห่งปัญญา ความจริง และการตรัสรู้ ซึ่งสามารถขจัดอวิชชา ความโลภ ความโกรธ และความหลง อันเป็นต้นเหตุของความทุกข์และความขัดแย้งทั้งปวง

English Translation
Pajjota Sutta: The Supreme Light That Leads Humanity Toward Global Peace
The Pajjota Sutta (The Discourse on Light) teaches that while the world is illuminated by physical light, the greatest light is the light of enlightenment.
In this discourse, celestial beings asked the Buddha:
"How many kinds of light exist in the world, and which is the greatest?"
The Buddha replied that there are four lights:
- The light of the sun, shining during the day.
- The light of the moon, shining at night.
- The light of fire, illuminating both day and night.
- The light of the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, which surpasses every other light.
The first three lights remove physical darkness.
The Buddha's light removes the darkness of ignorance.
It is the light of wisdom, truth, compassion, and awakening that liberates the human mind from greed, hatred, and delusion—the deepest causes of suffering and conflict.
Applied to global peacebuilding, the Pajjota Sutta reminds us that scientific progress, technological innovation, and economic development alone cannot guarantee peace.
Without ethical wisdom, even the brightest technologies may become instruments of war, division, and destruction.
Lasting peace requires cultivating inner wisdom alongside external progress.
Education, compassion, ethical leadership, mutual respect, and responsible use of knowledge become the true light that guides humanity toward cooperation rather than confrontation.
The Pajjota Sutta therefore offers a timeless vision:
The brightest light in the world is not merely the light that illuminates our eyes, but the wisdom that illuminates our hearts.
When wisdom shines within humanity, peace naturally shines across the world.
