In the forest's quiet song,
Some hear fear, some hear hope.
Gentle winds through ancient trees,
Whisper songs of harmony.
[Pre-Chorus]
What we see begins within,
Not the world, but where we've been.
Open hearts and open eyes,
Truth reveals a peaceful sky.
[Chorus]
A peaceful mind sees peaceful lands,
Building hope with gentle hands.
Fear dissolves like morning dew,
Love awakens bright and true.
Every forest, every sea,
Sings one song of unity.
When our hearts are calm and free,
The world becomes serenity.
[Verse 2]
Birds at rest beneath the sun,
Teach us all that we are one.
Nature's voice is soft and clear,
Calling every heart to hear.
[Bridge]
Leave behind the walls of fear,
Let compassion draw us near.
Wisdom lights the path we share,
Peace is growing everywhere.
[Final Chorus]
Listen with a mindful heart,
That's where lasting peace will start.
One blue sky above us all,
Answering humanity's call.
Hand in hand we'll always be,
Living with humility.
Through the Dhamma we embrace,
A world united in peace.

Sakamāna Sutta: Transforming Fear into Peace Through the Power of Perspective
Sāvatthī – The Sakamāna Sutta, found in the Saṃyutta Nikāya (Book 15 of the Pāli Canon), is a brief yet profound discourse illustrating how inner perception shapes human experience. Buddhist scholars suggest that this teaching offers valuable insights for cultivating world peace.
In the discourse, a deity says:
"When birds rest during the heat of noon, the great forest seems to moan. That sound appears to me as a sign of danger."
The verse reflects a mind filled with fear, interpreting the sounds of nature as threatening.
The Buddha responds:
"When birds rest during the heat of noon, and the great forest seems to moan, that very sound brings joy to me."
The Buddha's reply demonstrates that the same environment can produce entirely different experiences depending on the condition of one's mind. A peaceful and wise mind perceives harmony and beauty where a fearful mind sees danger.
Scholars explain that many human conflicts arise not only from external events but also from the way people interpret them. Minds dominated by fear, anger, or prejudice often transform neutral situations into perceived threats, while minds grounded in mindfulness and wisdom discover opportunities for understanding and peace.
Peace researchers believe the Sakamāna Sutta offers practical guidance for today's world, where misinformation, social media, and political polarization often intensify fear and division. Cultivating mindfulness, critical reflection, and compassionate listening can reduce misunderstanding and promote constructive dialogue.
The discourse also reflects the principle of ecological peace, encouraging humanity to appreciate nature not as something to fear, but as a source of harmony and inspiration. Living peacefully with the natural world contributes to lasting peace among people as well.
Scholars conclude that the Sakamāna Sutta teaches humanity to transform fear into understanding by changing the quality of the mind. When the mind is peaceful, the world itself becomes a place of peace.
