Song Title: “From Views to Truth” Diṭṭhi Saṃyutta, Sotāpatti Vagga

Song Title: “From Views to Truth”

Verse 1

So many thoughts arise within the mind,
We trust the things that we believe we find.
Sometimes our thoughts become our laws,
We hold them as the ultimate cause.

When we cling tightly to what we think,
The door to truth begins to shrink.
“I” and “mine” become the wall,
Standing between the heart and all.

Pre-Chorus

Stop for a moment, look within,
Let wisdom question where we've been.
The views we hold so strongly today—
Where did they begin, and why do they stay?

Chorus

From views to truth,
From clinging to release,
From delusion to the light of wisdom,
From wrong view to Right View,
We walk toward peace.

When we no longer call our thoughts “me,”
When we no longer claim our views as “mine,”
The heart becomes lighter and free,
And enters the stream of Dhamma divine.

Verse 2

Form and feeling, perception and mind,
Mental formations change with time.
Consciousness too will rise and fade,
Nothing permanent is ever made.

Do not ask only who is right or wrong,
Look for the causes all along.
When mindfulness comes before emotion,
Wisdom can guide the heart toward devotion.

Pre-Chorus

We do not need to defeat another,
We do not need to cling to our view.
Simply see things as they truly are,
And peace will begin to shine through.

Chorus

From views to truth,
From clinging to release,
From delusion to the light of wisdom,
From wrong view to Right View,
We walk toward peace.

When we no longer call our thoughts “me,”
When we no longer claim our views as “mine,”
The heart becomes lighter and free,
And enters the stream of Dhamma divine.

Bridge

The world is filled with countless views,
But truth is found through wisdom's light.
Mindfulness becomes our guiding star,
Wisdom becomes the lamp in the night.

See the causes, understand the effects,
See the self without holding it tight.
Wrong views slowly disappear,
And Right View begins to shine bright.

Final Chorus

From views to truth,
From attachment to a peaceful heart,
From doubt toward the path of wisdom,
A journey of awakening starts.

When reality is clearly seen,
And nothing is held as permanent self,
The first step on the Dhamma path begins—
A step toward freedom from suffering itself.

Outro

Release the views we once held tight,
Open the heart to the truth and light.
When wisdom becomes the guiding way,
Peace begins within us today.

“Diṭṭhi Saṃyutta, Sotāpatti Vagga” Highlights the Path from Wrong View to Stream-Entry

A teaching from the Tipitaka, Volume 17, Saṃyutta Nikāya, Khandha Vagga, emphasizes examining views with wisdom, releasing attachment to the Five Aggregates, and cultivating Right View as a foundation for entering the stream of Dhamma.

The Diṭṭhi Saṃyutta, Sotāpatti Vagga, in the Sutta Piṭaka, Volume 9, Saṃyutta Nikāya, Khandha Vagga, presents an important Buddhist perspective on “view” or diṭṭhi, which profoundly influences how human beings understand themselves, the world, and the nature of reality.

The central teaching is that a view can either guide the mind or bind it. Right View can lead a person toward understanding reality through causes and conditions. Wrong View, especially when accompanied by attachment, can instead lead to delusion, conflict, and suffering.

Therefore, examining a view should not stop at the question, “What do I believe?” It should also involve asking where that belief comes from, what kind of understanding supports it, and whether attachment lies behind it.

The contemplation of the Five Aggregates—form, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness—is particularly important. Through careful examination, practitioners can recognize that these phenomena are subject to change and cannot be regarded as a permanent self. As this understanding becomes clearer, attachment to ideas of “self” and “mine” can gradually weaken.

Sotāpatti, or stream-entry, represents a significant turning point in Buddhist practice. It marks a movement away from living under the control of fixed views and attachment toward seeing reality more directly and accurately.

In the contemporary world, the teaching on views has particular relevance in an age dominated by information and social media. People encounter countless opinions, news reports, assumptions, and beliefs every day. Learning to examine one's own views, avoid premature conclusions, and refrain from treating personal opinions as absolute truth can contribute significantly to peaceful coexistence.

The essential message of the Diṭṭhi Saṃyutta is a movement from “clinging to views” toward “seeing reality.” When views are examined through mindfulness, wisdom, and an understanding of causes and conditions, they can become the foundation of Right View and the path toward entering the stream of Dhamma.
