Prosperity Ahead! Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha is leading a transformative initiative, "Thai LandBridge," aimed at redirecting global transportation towards Thailand. The goal is to establish a future that accommodates 400,000 ships per year, supporting a robust shipping industry. This endeavor embraces public participation, encouraging input from local communities during the 16-18 August public hearings.

On August 13, 2566 (2023), Mrs. Tipanun Sirichana, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, aims to enhance transportation infrastructure and connectivity. The vision is to strategically position Thailand as a hub for transportation and trade in Asia. As part of this vision, relevant agencies have been instructed to study and develop the "LandBridge" project, which aims to create a robust transportation network and services, bolstering the economy of the southern region. This includes linking transportation between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. Successfully realizing this project will reshape global transportation routes, making Thailand a key player in the regional economy.

Currently, the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) reports that the LandBridge project is in the environmental and health impact assessment (EHIA) stage. The government seeks comprehensive feedback from all stakeholders through three rounds of public hearings scheduled for August 16-18, 2566 (2023), in Ranong and Chumphon provinces.

The public hearings will be held at:

Ranong Port:

Wednesday, August 16, 2566 (2023), 08:30 AM - 12:00 PM, at Ratchawadee Room 3, Heritance Gran Convento Ranong Hotel, Mueang Ranong District, Ranong Province.

Laem Son National Park, Chumphon Province:

Thursday, August 17, 2566 (2023), 08:30 AM - 12:00 PM, at the Meeting Room of Laem Son National Park, Mueang Kapho District, Chumphon Province.

Chumphon Port:

Friday, August 18, 2566 (2023), 08:30 AM - 12:00 PM, at the Auaychai Grand Ballroom, 2nd Floor, Auaychai Grand Hotel, Lang Suan District, Chumphon Province.

The LandBridge project comprises various components, including the development of deep-sea ports in Ranong and Chumphon, a dual-track railway system connecting Chumphon and Ranong, and the expansion of the Chumphon–Ranong motorway. These endeavors aim to create the capacity to accommodate over 400,000 ships per year by 2594 (2051) and promote overall regional development.

"Throughout his tenure, General Prayut Chan-o-cha has steadfastly laid the groundwork for Thailand's transportation infrastructure, positioning the country to compete globally. This initiative aims to enhance Thailand's competitiveness in trade, shipping, services, and tourism while spreading prosperity to the southern region and advancing the nation's overall well-being," stated Mrs. Tipanun.
