Title: They Shot First
Lyrics by [Dr.samran sompongs]
[Verse 1]
Gunshots rang… through the night
Bullets tore through rooftops in fright
Villagers woke, ran for their lives
While tears fell with each blast that arrived
A child cried, “Mama, who fired the gun?”
She held him close and softly replied,
“It wasn’t us who lit the flame…
Khmer shot first, my son… don’t cry.”
[Chorus]
They shot first… so who had to flee?
It was Thai people forced from their own country
This land of birth became a danger zone
Just because they saw us as foes—though we’ve never thrown a stone
They shot first… and history will recall
Who pulled the trigger, who played noble for the cameras all
Waving white flags on TV for show
While bullets in secret still fly below
[Verse 2]
We held back… we don’t wish for war
But they crushed our hearts like we meant nothing more
Our leaders still speak of peace and light
While theirs ignite hatred every night
The border’s not a chessboard square
For pawns to move in games unfair
That soil holds lives, hopes and dreams
Not just a range for war machines
[Chorus]
They shot first… but the world stays mute
No one hears the wounded voice of truth
Bullets know no faith, no flag, no face
Only death… scattered without grace
They shot first… remember that well
Don’t be fooled by the stories they sell
We still stand with truth and dignity
Peace must be built with hearts, not weaponry
[Bridge / Spoken Interlude]
“My name is Hong. I’m from South Korea...
I’ve lived in Thailand for over 20 years.
I saw it for myself—Khmer fired first.
I strongly condemn this inhuman act.
Thai people love peace…
But they must protect what’s theirs.”
[Outro]
They shot first… and we won’t forget
The first shot that turned homes into wrecks
But we won’t return the fire with hate
We ask them simply… to own it—and stop… before it’s too late.
For those who’ve fallen… and for the peace that must rise.
