Urgent Statement from MFA! Thailand Urges Global Community to Condemn Cambodia for Using Heavy Weapons on Civilians

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an urgent statement after Cambodian forces launched heavy weapon attacks on civilian homes in Surin Province. The Ministry also rejected accusations that Thailand initiated the violence and affirmed Thailand’s right to self-defense under the UN Charter.

Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) – July 27, 2025

According to reports at approximately 4:30 a.m. on July 27, 2025, Cambodian forces used heavy weaponry to fire into residential areas on Thai territory in Surin Province. In addition, disinformation and false claims were circulated, accusing Thailand of initiating the attack.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to clarify as follows:

  1. Thailand strongly condemns this grave and repeated violation of international law and calls on Cambodia to immediately cease all attacks on civilian targets. A ceasefire cannot occur as long as Cambodia continues to act in bad faith and violates fundamental human rights and humanitarian law. Thailand reserves its right to self-defense as provided in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and has conducted a limited response targeting only military objectives to eliminate threats to Thai sovereignty and territorial integrity.

  2. Thailand calls on the international community to condemn Cambodia’s inhumane and unacceptable actions, which violate the rules-based international order and the principles of the rule of law.

Army Spokesman: Cambodia Has Not Ceased Fire and May Be Deploying Heavier Weapons

Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvaree, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, commented on the latest situation along the Thai-Cambodian border. He confirmed that Cambodian forces continue to launch long-range support fire into Thai territory, leading to multiple clashes along the frontline. A significant number of these long-range munitions have landed outside designated military zones in Surin Province.

Thailand finds it necessary to take military action to respond to ongoing attacks from long-range weapons such as rockets and artillery to prevent harm or casualties among the civilian population.

On July 26, 2025, at around 3:30 p.m., Cambodian artillery directly targeted the Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital in Ban Sam Meng, Moo 3, Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province. The building suffered heavy damage, but there were no casualties as patients had been evacuated in advance.

There are also reports that more advanced weapons such as the PHL-03, RM-70, and BM-21 systems may soon be deployed to support Cambodian operations. Given this escalation, Thailand remains cautious and cannot trust Cambodia's intentions. Cambodian forces continue to launch various types of attacks on Thai positions without restraint.

The Royal Thai Army reaffirms its commitment to respond with full military capacity, focusing strictly on military targets posing a threat to national security and public safety, and will act in accordance with international rules to protect Thai sovereignty to the fullest extent.

RTAF Requests Public to Refrain from Sharing Military Intelligence

The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) Facebook page issued an urgent warning, requesting public cooperation in not sharing media, content, data, or images related to the deep capabilities of Thai weapon systems or speculative military strategies. Such information could negatively affect ongoing military operations. Everyone is urged to cooperate for the sake of Thailand’s national security.

Cambodia Fires BM-21 Rocket at Ta Muen Thom Temple

At 11:45 a.m., the Second Army Area Command posted an update on its page, reporting that Cambodian forces launched a BM-21 rocket at the Ta Muen Thom Temple—an act of blatant aggression and violation of Thai sovereignty without justification.
