เมื่อวันที่ 10 สิงหาคม 2568 พระสงฆ์กัมพูชาจำนวน 2,569 รูป ซึ่งตรงกับเลขปีพุทธศักราชกัมพูชา ได้ร่วมกันจัดขบวนธรรมยาตราเพื่อสันติภาพ โดยตั้งแถวชูภาพประธานาธิบดีโดนัลด์ ทรัมป์ เพื่อแสดงการยกย่องและขอบคุณต่อบทบาทที่ช่วยผลักดันให้เกิดการหยุดยิงในพื้นที่ขัดแย้ง ก่อนเคลื่อนขบวนไปยังอนุสรณ์สถานวิมานเอกราช กรุงพนมเปญ
การเดินขบวนครั้งนี้มีผู้สังเกตการณ์บางส่วนแสดงความเห็นว่า พระสงฆ์ในกรุงพนมเปญกำลังส่งสัญญาณเตือนถึงรัฐบาลฮุน เซน ให้หันมาเจรจาและสร้างสันติภาพอย่างแท้จริงในความขัดแย้งไทย–กัมพูชา โดยชี้ว่าบทบาทของพระสงฆ์เป็นหนึ่งในกลไกอิสระที่สังคมกัมพูชาใช้เป็นพื้นที่หารือ แต่ก็อาจสะท้อนความทุกข์จากสภาพสงครามที่ทำให้ศพทหารยากจนหลายรายถูกปล่อยทิ้งไว้ในป่าโดยไร้การเหลียวแล
พร้อมกันนี้ นักวิชาการด้านสันติภาพได้เชื่อมโยงเหตุการณ์ดังกล่าวกับแนวคิด “สันติภาพจอมปลอม” (Pseudo Peace) ซึ่งหมายถึงความสงบที่เห็นเพียงภายนอก ขณะที่ความขัดแย้งยังคงซ่อนอยู่ในโครงสร้างสังคมและการเมือง โดยวิเคราะห์ว่า สันติภาพลักษณะนี้มักเกิดจากการกดทับความไม่พอใจ การจำกัดเสรีภาพ การบิดเบือนข้อมูล หรือการทำข้อตกลงที่ไม่เป็นธรรม ซึ่งแม้จะสร้างภาพลักษณ์ความมั่นคงในระยะสั้น แต่มีความเสี่ยงสูงต่อการปะทุความรุนแรงในอนาคต
ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจึงเสนอว่า หากต้องการสันติภาพที่แท้จริง ต้องแก้ปัญหาที่ต้นเหตุ เช่น ความเหลื่อมล้ำ ความอยุติธรรม และการเปิดพื้นที่ให้ทุกฝ่ายมีส่วนร่วมในกระบวนการตัดสินใจ รวมถึงการปฏิรูประบบกฎหมายและสถาบันเพื่อเคารพสิทธิของประชาชนอย่างแท้จริง
Over 2,500 Cambodian Monks Stage Peace Pilgrimage, Hold Images of Donald Trump to Thank Him for Role in Ceasefire Amid Criticism of “Pseudo Peace”
On August 10, 2025, a total of 2,569 Cambodian monks—matching the Buddhist calendar year in Cambodia—joined together in a peace pilgrimage. The monks formed ranks holding portraits of U.S. President Donald Trump as a gesture of respect and gratitude for his role in helping to push forward a ceasefire in conflict areas, before marching toward the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh.
Some observers commented that the monks in Phnom Penh were sending a warning signal to Prime Minister Hun Sen’s government to turn toward genuine dialogue and peace in the Thai–Cambodian conflict. They noted that the role of monks is one of the few independent mechanisms in Cambodian society serving as a space for public discussion. At the same time, the march may reflect the grief over the lingering toll of war, in which the bodies of many impoverished local soldiers have been left to decay in the forests, unattended.
Peace scholars have linked the event to the concept of “Pseudo Peace,” which refers to an outward appearance of tranquility while underlying conflicts persist within the social and political structure. Analysts argue that such peace often stems from suppressing dissent, restricting freedoms, distorting information, or forging unjust agreements. While these measures may create a short-term image of stability, they carry a high risk of renewed violence in the future.
Experts suggest that achieving genuine peace requires addressing the root causes of conflict, such as inequality, injustice, and the exclusion of stakeholders from decision-making processes. They also call for reforms to the legal system and institutions to ensure the protection of citizens’ rights and dignity.
